#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media & collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday & Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday & end-of-year giving.

On Dec 3, 2019, join the #GivingTuesdaySA movement and give – whether it’s your time, a gift or the power of your voice. It’s a simple idea. $380M was raised globally in 2018, and whether you come together with your family, your community, or your company, find a way to give back and then share your idea.  Click here for more resources to get started!

Individuals

Give your voice

Society is more divided than ever.  Use your voice to share positive stories of your own giving – giving of time, of resources, or of skills.  Use your voice to share what’s important to you when giving.  Use your voice to share where you give and why.

Give a gift

Use #GivingTuesdaySA as the day you give financially to a cause that is meaningful to you.  Share with your friends, family, and networks about where you gave and why.  We all share a lot of our lives these days, so why not apply the same share tactics to your giving philosophy.  Highlight the causes that mean something to you.  Give them appreciation and celebrate them.

Give your time or skills

All non-profits can use help, it is often a matter of matching what you can provide with what non-profits need.  Think thoughtfully about what you have to give time wise and try your best to match it.  Email us if you are interested in giving your time, but unsure of how or where.  We know lots of great organizations nationwide that would be eager to host you.

Fundraise for a cause that is special to you

Use your social network to raise money on #GivingTuesdaySA.  Both Backabuddy and GivenGain make it quite easy to crowd fund via your own platforms, and to encourage others to also get involved.  This is undoubtedly one of the most appreciated ways to give according to non-profits.  Read more about how to crowdfund for #GivingTuesday here with Backabuddy or here with GivenGain.

#GivingTuesday is a global phenomenon as are most of our social networks.  Share your #GivingTuesdaySA contributions and join the global conversation. See more ideas here for individuals to get involved.

Corporates

Get involved on #GivingTuesdaySA

It’s never too late to start planning for #GivingTuesdaySA.  Just like Mandela Day is not a staple in any corporate’s calendar, so too should #GivingTuesdaySA.

Match employee giving

There are so many ways for you to leverage your employees’ passions on #GivingTuesdaySA.  A common way to get involved is to challenge them to give and to match their contributions.  Encourage them to form teams, and pool resources and funds, and create a competitive landscape with society as the ultimate beneficiary.

Highlight your annual giving

Take the day as a time to pat yourself on the back for funds given throughout the year.  Draft a press release that shares your annual grant making, CSI funding, or employee engagement.

Global ideas for organizations

For many global companies, this is an opportunity to link country to country operations via the global #GivingTuesday movement.  Chances are you can build bridges with colleagues in other areas of the world – take LinkedIn’s example where employee funding was matched 3 to 1.  Their 10,000 global employees were able to support a co-worker’s cause of choice and the efforts raised $600,000.

Non Profit Organisations

Launch a #GivingTuesdaySA campaign with GivenGain

One of the highlights of #GivingTuesdaySA is the ability to use your individual champions as fundraisers.  Divide and conquer, as they say.  Visit GivenGain for more details about how to get involved.  Email us and we can share best practices and advice for launching a campaign as well.

Participate in a #GivingTuesdaySA activation

Just like Mandela Day, we are encouraging non-profits to host their champions on #GivingTuesdaySA.  We all know 67 minutes is not enough, so let’s offer another nationwide day to celebrate non-profits contribution to society at large.  Come up with an idea for #GivingTuesdaySA and invite stakeholders to join you for the day.  If you come up with a list of your needs, and drive the schedule for the day, chances are you will end up on top.
